Re: 120 Million Networks

I remember wardriving back in the 1990's and was lucky to find another in the same town. Times have changed!

Re: New to WiGLE

I wish I got paid to drive around! Sometimes I drive for a few hours just to see how many I can get. I found a few tricks that at least doubled my Android locations: placing the phone upside down so the antenna on the bottom faces up, and in the area of the windshield. Also, the newer phones pick up...

Re: Tell me about 5GHz

I have noticed an invasion of 5GHz in the last few months. Google Fiber's network boxes are broadcasting both frequencies with high power. And a good portion of our city is now lit up. That means two new hits for each location.

Kansas City, Missouri...

So Kansas City has a population of 463,202. And I discovered 188,208 by going through every street, ally, and highway. Did I miss any? Kansas City is now ranked #34 in group statistics. Looks like the top ten isn't going to happen...

Re: Tell me about 5GHz

Are you sure that all those new networks are 5ghz? Check the frequencies When I changed my phone, most of new networks I can see are 2.4 that I could not see due my old phone having a weaker antenna. I'm seeing a LOT of new channels, like 36 showing up. I used to only see 1 through 11 and the occas...

Re: Wifi Blocking Wallpaper

I would not recommend possessing or using a jammer of any kind. The FCC is pretty good about enforcement and politely hands out a paper that reads, "Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture." And they ask for several thousand dollars and up, using federal courts to speed cooperation. If...

Tell me about 5GHz

I've been using 2.4GHz since the beginning of wifi time. Last month, I bought a SGS4 phone and noticed the Android Wigle app has been pulling in four times the access points as my SGS2 phone. Whoa. It seems my new phone does 5GHz, which may be partly responsible...even if a little. I do know its rad...

Re: Show your wardriving stuff/box

I have noticed my new Galaxy S4 picks up twice as many as my old broken S2 did. Apparently, it does 5GHz too. And then I flipped it over so the antenna side was up....doubled the performance again...should have done that from the beginning lol. So, I'm covering all my old routes and getting an easy ...

Re: Best car for wardriving

At low speeds, the Prius gets way over 100mpg. That's over a 1,000 mile range per tank.

So my phone's GPS broke...looking for a cheap dedicated rig

What cheap cell phones are available that have *high* wifi gain? Side by side, my Samsung Galaxy2 picks up 1/3rd of the Galaxy Tab. Quite a disparity. If it's not small, it ends up not going everywhere.

Re: Do NOT count/list clients please...

Having the number of wireless clients would be interesting too. Clients are the reason why access points exist.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2 - WigleWifi - No Location!

I've had many problems with gps on Samsung's phones. A good ROM flashed makes a world of difference.
