Promote Free Open Mesh Networking

Hindsight is 20/20, or One Reason Why I Won't Wigle No More From the Wigle FAQ, "Educating the Public: When WiGLE started in 2001 the default for wifi was to have no encryption at all. An end user had a choice to turn on weak encryption (40-bit WEP), or pay extra for slightly less weak encrypti...

Re: RC warflying

2.5 to 3 ounces, including protective cover and battery for Jelly Pro seems hard to beat. And a screen sure improves usability.

Re: F-Droid build

There's an open issue with several mentions of Wigle over here:

https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/issues/1252

TL;DR A lot seems automated, but maybe that's a place to get some coordination/assistance.

Not that I'll ever run Wigle again. :P :D

Re: Outdated WiGLE app on F-Droid

We've made a branch which strips out Google Maps, including a generated apk. No promises on how often we'll update it though: https://github.com/wiglenet/wigle-wifi-wardriving/tree/foss-master Oh how things change... LineageOS, successor of CyanogenMod celebrated a year this last December, and I've...

Re: Openstreetmap, convert track to gpx file, how to?

So I stumbled (cough) around to a solution, and here are some details for anyone else who bumps into this. First, extract the gps trace-related fields from the Wigle csv file; altitude is probably not necessary, but included anyway: $ cut -d, -f4,7-9 WigleWifi_2017...csv | tee WigleWifi_2017...-cut0...

Openstreetmap, convert track to gpx file, how to?

100. If you're mapping wireless networks, you might consider mapping your routes and posting them to [Openstreetmap]. The best way (in my opinion --KH): convert the track to a gpx file , and import that file in 'josm', the java openstreetmap editor. Reconstruct the roads and other objects you visit...

Re: RC warflying

I think it sounds fun. A phone sounds easiest. A Unihertz Jelly Pro is less than 3 ounces, and an old Nexus with over-sized battery is less than 6. Of course a better antenna picks up weaker signals, and a faster CPU will process/find more for each pass. I'd guess lower altitude is better, but it wo...

Re: New Selection Criteria

Bump.. Laced all over my area (Connecticut) are wifi hotspots of cable companies named optimumwifi and xfinitywifi, and those make up over two percent (https://wigle.net/stats#ssidstats) of all reported hits by everyone. So it would be nice in the app to be able to filter out such things, or for Wi...

Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

I'd love to be able to view all of the database entries on the map at the same time, right now you can only view "New" and "Run and New". I use the web map for seeing all database mapped, but it would be very convenient to see in the app map. Is this a difficult thing (for you, ...

Smallest and Largest Devices?

Over the years I've used some more or less compact Android devices for running the Wigle app, but I think the Jelly Pro I just got might take the record for smallest (Pictures attached). :D Can anyone beat that??

Re: Huge uploads after reinstalls, bug or feature?

I give the app all permissions it requests, IIRC, location and storage. The tablet only has internal storage, no extra sd card. I don't know how to make the DB pointer change you suggested.

Huge uploads after reinstalls, bug or feature?

A "long time ago," after uninstall/reinstalls of the Wigle app, a very large upload (hundreds of Megabytes) would be observed, even though the old WigleWifi_date-time.csv.gz and wiglewifi.sqlite, etc. files stayed on the device, and the amount of scanning since last upload was "normal...

Re: Archiving, and site bugs?

The new version now complains about MODE_WORLD_READABLE no longer supported, but the old version seems to be working again.

Re: Archiving, and site bugs?

Tried another upload, but same result. I'm using only version wigle 2.10, which is all that's offered for this tablet on f-droid. The downloadable apk won't work because of no play services. I'm using Unofficial][AOSP] Android 7.1.2 Nougat on Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, updated to latest version within...
