Android 11: Good to update?

My main phone, which I have never used to wardrive, is now offering to upgrade to Android 11. I haven't tried to get the Wigle software to work on that phone, because I haven't found the explanation, and I cannot find my previous inquiries on the subject. Is there any reason NOT to upgrade to Androi...

Finally trying to do developer to use anti-throttle,, can't.

The instructions claimed: "Enable developer mode; usually this involves repeatedly tapping the build number in your phone settings" Yes, that worked. "Enter the developer options and disable "WiFi Scan throttle" or similar." No, I cannot find 'developer options'. I have...

Re: here is an Wi-Fi throttle fix for Android 9 users (non root or rooted)

Just run this ADB command:

adb shell settings put global wifi_scan_throttle_enabled 0
How do I do that?
What is this?
I haven't a clue.

Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

Sidewalk isn't public WiFi, it's an alternate wireless network to let devices talk to your Amazon devices as a gateway. It would be interesting to add detection of active Sidewalk devices in a stumbling rig, though I'm not sure if the protocols would allow for the right info capture... Okay, I stil...

Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

A few weeks ago, I heard of "Google Sidewalk", a new ability that allows devices like "Echo" to provide a bit of Internet access for everyone within 'hearing' of the device. But, a little searching and I cannot find references to how people are supposed to actually use that Inter...

Amazon Echo et al: Will it increase the number of WiFis to be found?

Within the last few weeks, I have been reading of a not-particular-well publicized policy to use Amazon Echo devices (and others) to provide WiFis to the public. It will be on an opt-out basis. Do we Wiglers have to do anything to find these devices? Moreover, can our Wigle scanners now actually USE...

Re: Kingman, AZ Wardrivers

About three years ago, I visited a relative in Kingman, but wasn't driving my own car, so I was limited to holding up a smartphone as somebody else drove in the area.

Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

For longer runs, users can turn on "Display routes for execution" in the settings panel which will efficiently draw lines on the map showing the entire path of the current run. Android 9 (Pie) has wifi throttling that can't be turned off. Android 10 and 11 have throttling as well, but the...

Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

I suggest that the number of displayable teardrops be doubled, or even quadrupled. I scan many large and complex areas, and it is difficult to do so if the earlier teardrops begin to be erased. If this requires more non-volatile memory than you expect that a phone would have, I'd be happy to buy SD ...

Re: Android Pie and WiGLE - news articles about scan-throttling

I have a preference for Motorola phones: Cheap. Here's a page describing which Moto phones will be getting Android Pie. What with the scan-throttling behavior of Pie, I figure I'm going to have to collect a group of Android wardriving-capable phones which are guaranteed NOT to "upgrade" to...

Re: Android Pie and WiGLE - news articles about scan-throttling

This is from my quote above: "Android Pie is still fresh on everyone’s mind and we’re only starting to experience some of the changes that Google has made with its latest update. Android has always been criticized for having poor battery life compared to other mobile operating systems, but this...

I thought I posted this elsewhere, but I cannot find it: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-pie-throttling-wi-fi-scans-crippling-apps/ "[Update: Toggle coming in Q Beta 5] Android Pie’s throttling of Wi-Fi scans is crippling some network tools Update 2 (5/29/19 @ 9:04 AM ET): A Google emplo...

Re: wow...everybody buying online ?

Having finally allowed by two Moto X4's to upgrade to Android Pi, they are both now useless for wardriving. So, what I need is a new phone, ideally one that has a very fast scanning rate, Turbo-charge capability, replaceable battery. I also have another question: Since I don't need telephone capabil...

Re: Android Pie and WiGLE - news articles about scan-throttling

I just allowed my pair of Moto X4s to upgrade to the current revision of software: They did what seemed to be about 10 sequential upgrades. So, I assume they are essentially useless for wardriving. But now I have a need for a wardriving smartphone. I want one that won't ever upgrade to android pi. B...
