Re: Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

For longer runs, users can turn on "Display routes for execution" in the settings panel which will efficiently draw lines on the map showing the entire path of the current run. Android 9 (Pie) has wifi throttling that can't be turned off. Android 10 and 11 have throttling as well, but there the thro...

Android client 2.53 works around Google Maps Bug

We've pushed out a quick fix in version 2.53 that works around a recent bug pushed down from Google Maps servers. The bug surfaces as error "ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: length=1; index=12", so if you've seen that please grab this version and hopefully it will stop occurring. The bug: https://iss...

Re: Android 10 - Can't set location permission to "Allow all the time"

The WiGLE WiFI app has a foreground service, which is why the notification is always shown why the app is running. Because it's a foreground service it doesn't need the run all the time permission, since that is only for background-only services to prevent sneaky things. Since our app is up front wi...

Re: Pop up every time you start

The option to turn off is still around: Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Wi-Fi preferences -> Open network notification. It used to be that these notifications would interfere with network scanning. It's possible that's not an issue anymore. But regardless, turning off this android setting...

Re: Almost all missing blue balloons during wardriving.

By default the map aggregates into circles with the number of networks found in them. If you want more icons to be shown on the map, tap on the 3-dots menu in the upper-right, and choose "Clustering Off", that will show individual pins per network. Also tap on the magnifying glass and make sure that...

Re: New Layout w/Icons - bug?

You are right! Bluetooth was backwards before, but the issue with Cell were the metrics themselves being off since they were still being detangled from Bluetooth stats. Everything on the personal stats and the stats rankings page should be correct now, they've been recomputed from base de-duped data.

Re: New Layout w/Icons - bug?

This was a long-standing bug that we did fix recently. The number of networks with a gps fix has to be less than or equal to the total number of networks seen, how we had it before violated that thought exercise (and the code plumbing proved it out).

Re: Android App: Exit button in Hamburger menu is not working

Exit stops the notification service, which also stops it being a Foreground app. The OS will keep the process around if it doesn't need the resources, just like anything else, it will not be in an active run state in the android app lifecycle. If you swipe the app away then the OS will kill the proc...

Re: Position in file processing queue resets

We're doing some back-processing of data, so even though that file says it has 1283 to go it may get processed in the same batch as the your previous one. Since the batches are grabbed in transid order, the older data will get processed first if they aren't in the same batch, however. Rest assured i...

Re: List of my uploads doe not show networks

What is your transaction id? Note that new to your local database won't necessarily be new to the wigle database, so newly discovered numbers can and will be different.

Re: Bluetooth on 2.36

We should probably put a cap on the number we keep if "show current only" is turned off. Devices don't have a ton of memory, and sorting becomes slower.

Re: no scan when screen is off

That's odd, what device manufacturer? What carrier (which may have tweaked the OS)? I would guess the OS is deciding to kill the app or suppress wifi scans even though there's a foreground service (probably in some crusade for battery life). Could watch log output when connected to Android Studio vi...

Re: Google Pie and Wifi Wardriving

This is getting ridiculous, allow the user to decide battery life trade-offs, instead of forcing things to fail. And don't go the route of Apple, removing the ability altogether, making the platform useless for whole categories of applications for regular folks who aren't rooting/jailbreaking.
