Thanks argh. I prefer Kismet as well. My Zaurus SL-5500 has become unreliable lately. I'm not sure if it's some bug in OpenZaurus, or that I dropped it one time too many. If it is kaput, I'll probably get an iPAQ because I see more active development on that platform. I really love Sharp products, b...

Re: No Free Lunch

No need to get your panties in a bunch. Oh, great...another jerk. After all the original post wasn't very clear as to what stood between him and the source. His first test took place looking out his first story window. He only mentions the existence of an adjacent building. He never said whe...

wrzwaldo, your constant use of the argumentum ad hominem in lieu of any substantive, on-topic discussion is ample proof that you're nothing but an empty-headed poseur with nothing to contribute to this forum. Do us all a favor and go back to your bridge, you troll. There's no shame in not knowing so...

Re: No Free Lunch

At 2.4 GHz yes, [propagation of RF energy] are the same [as propagation of visible light]. They are certainly NOT! Well...I guess it settles that! After all, you shouted "NOT", which is indisputable proof...not. Just because you can see the target does not mean at 2400MHz you have LOS! Get a...

Re: Changed!

They seem to have changed their webpage, replacing wardriver with "WiFi-Hacker". The term wardriver still shows up on that page, but I applaud them for their efforts in correcting the error. I'd hold my applause if I were you. Calling innocent people criminals is itself a crime in most jurisdiction...

heh, I take it you have a 310 you're wanting to use? ;] I'm still shopping at this point, actually. But since I have a bunch of serial cables and "wire it yourself" DB-9 plugs, I like the idea of saving the time and money needed to order a proprietary cable. I can also make my cable(s) as long or s...

Re: No Free Lunch

RF-LOS not visual LOS. At 2.4 GHz yes, they are the same. Of course electromagnetic radiation can penetrate some things that stop photons cold. This is an attenuation issue, not a line-of-sight issue. Sure, you can use an AP in another room where you can't see it. But being able to get a Wi-Fi sign...

Rage,

There is no standard color code for serial cables. What counts is pin numbers. Knowing which pin at one end connects to which pin at the other end would help.

If this is a directional antenna, it comes down to how well you use it. If you're pointing a high gain directional antenna in one direction, and you don't see (with your own eyes) an AP in that direction, then obviously your GPS coordinates are not the same as the location of the AP. You can aim the...

Is this a next-door neighbor? The farther the distance, the harder it is to do. Most laptop antennae, especially those on PC-Cards are horizontally polarized, so if you have a dual antenna AP like the Linksys WAP11, you can set one antenna horizontally, and perpendicular to the direction of your nei...

No Free Lunch

Maria, You may have heard the saying "there's no such thing as a free lunch." In the case of antennae, there's no such thing as free gain. The YSC-HG2424G antenna that you purchased has a very high gain in one direction. That gain comes at the cost of sensitivity at all other directions. In short, y...
