The new web maps are grrrrrrreat!

Just saw the beta web maps based on google maps (the advantage of being in the timezone which has working hours right after the wigle masters finally get to go to sleep).

Great stuff guys! Looks amazing!

Re: hrm

how large a file were you attempting to post? 1.1 mb, which normally sails past wigle without hitch. you can help us debug this by trying a post on a fresh copy of your browser (i know, i know) as its related to file posts during an ssl renegotiation handshake. thanks, sorry :-\ Third time was luck...

"Networks last month with GPS" : nice improvement!

I noticed the 'networks last month with GPS' stats earlier, a nice addition to the statistics.

Kudos to the WiGLE crew!

Resurrecting an ancient thread: Adding a signal strength meter to a GPS, (which is essentially what war driving boils down to.) enables quite complex signal paths to be mapped. With a little ingenuity the technique could be adapted to any RF signal. I'm tempted to have a play with a scanner, gps and...

Re: Warcarting

This was specifically done to attract attention in an obnoxious sort of way. Not to mention how stupid it looks to be walking around with all of that stuff on a cart. I browsed the sheets from the defcon presentation and it seems the 'warcart' was an over-the-top response to the fact that the earli...

Re: war bicycling - how to power it all.

Gas prices being what they are has put a serious cramp in my war driving. That being the case, I'm getting more interested in war-bicycling. For those of you who war-bicycle, how do you power it all, or do you just go for shorter 1-2 hr rides? Do you use a laptop, or do you somehow power a WRT? My ...

Another one from the tinfoil hat crowd

It's becoming almost regular.. Group wants Wi-Fi banned from public buildings (KOB.com) . A group in Santa Fe says the city is discriminating against them because they say that they're allergic to the wireless Internet signal. And now they want Wi-Fi banned from public buildings. Found via Group Wan...

Wifi for geography

Interesting scientific article about finding wi-fi networks and what they mean for a geographical area. It mentions wigle.net a few times. What is interesting to 'us wiglers' is that the author makes some negative remarks about the quality of wardriving databases for his research. Wi-Fi Geographies ...

As for generating Mappacks for the Jigle/Digle offline clients, with OSM data, that just became easier, since OSM now have incorporated a export tab on their map interface, giving people the possibility of generating a stiched tile for download, in PNG or SVG format, aswell as for downloading the u...

Russia requires wi-fi registration

A new regulatory agency in Russia has decided every device with Wi-Fi needs registration. According to Karpov’s statement, registering a PDA or telephone would take 10 days. Then, only the owner of the device would be licensed to use it. Registering a Wi-Fi hotspot, on the other hand, would be mor...

You mentioned that kismet would handle channel hopping, is it possible to have one device not channel hop? I was thinking it would be nice to have one device devoted to channel 6 (omni), and the other two (directional) hopping the full range except for channel 6. From the sample kismet.conf with th...
