RF Fingerprinting
Check out @acyberexpert's presentation from BSides Perth - https://obvi.us/presentation/rf-sig/ . In addition to mentioning WiGLE (!), it's jam packed with exactly the kind of information and security/privacy concerns about wireless WiGLE exists to highlight!

Re: Manual or other basic info on Wigle
There's no manual yet - but pull requests are very welcome! If you have a little time to watch a video, a couple of power users did a pretty remarkable demo and talk at def con last year You're correct; each dot is a signal-strength colored observation. If you see a straight line of dots like that, ...

Re: no scan when screen is off
we're on the case - Google's been doing some annoying stuff with foreground/background, as have some vendors. What OS version are you on? Depending, there might be some application "advanced" settings that get toggled (even without an upgrade) if WiGLE ends up being a heavy battery user (t...
Re: WiGLE WiFi Wardriving 2.31 crashing on launch
Hi DaClyde, you're absolutely right - we unintentionally introduced a problem in our new cell stumbling implementation. because older Samsungs have a known problem with SQLite DB access in certain threading circumstances, sometimes looking up the network IDs freaks out. if you're feeling brave, the ...

Re: upload error
As a note to people who are worried: we write data to the local db as it's collected - you'll rarely lose data even if you forget to upload or the app crashes! In some weird cases, the "marker" which differentiates between new and old data might get set forward of data that hasn't been suc...
Re: User Statistics not displaying correctly on Android Pie?
this is a great note - we'll make sure we don't restore incompatible tokens from older devices. Google just flat out retired some cipher suites from version to version (and broke one completely) and it's been a *misery* for us to match. Thanks for the help in diagnosing thing, sorry for the problems...
Re: User Statistics not displaying correctly on Android Pie?
that's really weird - would you mind de-authorizing and re-authorizing with WiGLE, to see if that problem persists?
Sorry for the trouble,

Thanks for the report, sorry for the inconvenience!

Re: CSV export missing leading zero in cell MNC
OK! This is absolutely our mistake - we made some changes in 2.31 attempting to gather more cell info (both harvesting towers to which you're not connected as well as more metadata about them, such as LTE and WCDMA vs. GSM) - the upshot is that the API for that has integer return values up SDK28. We...

oh heck, good bug report - we're on it.
Re: Question about the weighted-centroid trilateration named in the FAQ
Well, that's awkward - they've assigned apparently-exclusive meanings to things that aren't mutually exclusive. When I wrote that section (and when we defined our technique) I meant to point out: 1. Trilateration based on n-dimensional observations (not "triangulation") is the correct desc...
Re: Google Pie and Wifi Wardriving
we're committed to finding a way to resolve this for everyone, and wouldn't ask our users to decrease their own security just to stumble - we'll post info here as it becomes available!
