Wigle Wifi for Android: Suggestions

Suggestions for WiGLE/JiGLE/DiGLE

Wigle uses map tiles in the /osmdroid/tiles/Maplink/... directory structure.
I use OsmAnd for navigation and gps track generation, and OsmAnd uses the exact same maps, but in o/smand/tiles/Maplink/...

Requested option: Choose between osmand and osmdroid map directory.

I am active in openstreetmap and a feaure to save gps tracks in .gpx format would be nice. Including options on how often to save, maybe even depending on speed. Up to every second or every meter if possible. Autosave track to SD with date/timestamp naming.
Uploading the .gpx to openstreetmap can be done manually.

Requested addition: save gps track to .gpx file.

Great program. I really do like the one button upload too.

Here are some possible feature ideas. Add "charging" to the battery level indication to remind you that your power cord is plugged in and working. On my Samsung Vibrant when it announces the time from 1 to 9 min after the hour it says the hour and leaves off the "zero" and says the minute. Not a huge deal, just sounds strange. :)

My suggestions:

- Support kmh and kilometers not only mph and miles (Please do not depend on the locale used, make it a setting in the option menu)
- An option to turn off the scanning service without closing the app (Useful for saving battery when you know there is no wifi for the next next 10km. The wardrive app for example offers this option when pressing menu (GPS updates should continue only the wifi scanning service should be suspended - maybe an option to set the GPS update times while the scanning service is suspended to save even more battery))
- Support for QVGA screens in the Dashboard tab since you have to scroll in it - smaller font size in that screen when QVGA is detected sounds fine)
My Suggestion is could there be an option to only upload when on Wi-Fi (For when you don't have Cheap data :( and if there was an Auto-Upload (End of run or new AP found etc.)

And when a file is uploaded could it be deleted (With an option to keep it for all those that care about it :) )

And a way to change all the speeds from Imperial to Metric

Thats All I can think of ATM
It would be nice to have an automatic reminder app (or addition to the app) to turn on the Wigle WIFI. I work for myself so I am around all over the place in my area (mostly residential customers) but I forget to turn on the Wigle WIFI more than half the time. A reminder every AM before I head out the door would be most helpful.
Set an alarm on your Calendar app and I think you'll be all set!

Awesome app! Great work.

I'd like (and my wife insists on!) an option to *speak* the name of each ssid when first detected in a run. We really like that feature in kismet, and would love to see it in the android app as well. I assume it would be easy to add since speech is already available.
Fun idea, added to TODO.

There seems to be a bug in the CSV creation by the Android application. Any rows that have data from GSM networks are shifted one column to the right. I was noticing that none of my uploaded GSM data is appearing on the map and this may be why.
Great application. Would love a periodic way to log to 'disk', even if uploaded later. I found in my exuberance for your cool application that once I had a lot of new points, it really started bogging my android down when I hadn't saved in many hundreds of new points.

Appreciate everyone's work on this nifty & useful program, thanks!

Thanks for everyone's work on Wigle & WarDriving in general ;)
The csv bug is fixed in 1.36.

WigleWifi continuously saves to an sqlite database on the sdcard or local memory, so it shouldn't "bog down" while running.

Excellent, good to know about the application! Just getting started in all of this.

I should have also mentioned there were no other foreground programs running at the time on a Sprint CDMA Hero, etc. but naturally, with my sample size of one, it could've been anything else stuttering in my little computer and affecting the Wigle Wifi app :)

Appreciate the reply, looking forward to more fun with this.

Bug report:

There may be a possible memory leak when audio is played; after running for a while with audio enabled, my music player starts stuttering. Also some problems in calls.

An option to disable WiFi scanning (monitoring cell tower observations only) would be handy for the times you have a better rig than your phone around.

Just got the update with this feature this weekend. Thanks!

Possible improvements:
1. If you hit mute, the speech doesn't stop right away. In case of a dense wifi area, this can take a while to take effect (and ideally mute would take effect immediately).
2. An additional option to not re-speak ssids that have the same value as previous ssids. For example, when I drove by a large high school with its own wifi, it spoke the same ssid a dozen times (one for each bssid, I presume) which took a long time.
