Wireless World: WiFi 'Vampires' Attack

Quote: wigle was mentioned in this news clip

There are Internet sites for hackers such as wigle.net, which aggregate
data for the computer criminals and let them know what networks in
what neighborhoods may be vulnerable, Burkan said.
"My guess is that 50-70 percent of networks are not protected."

Hint: nearly all networks in all neighborhoods are vulnerable, and we try to rectify that. Sheesh. A "computer criminal" would use whatever random target they saw around them at the time, or if they had a particular target they would drive to that specific home or office.

If a person or company has taken no steps to secure their networks, wired or wireless, then they are at risk. If wireless, you are broadcasting your existance to anyone around, all day, every day. You must take steps to protect yourself!

Very true., people need take that extra step to secure their network
Even WEP is proven not to be secure.

802.11i, also known as WPA2, brings strong AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) security to wireless networks. But it may not be for everyone. The AES portion of WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) security is not backward compatible with currently installed 802.11 a/b/g equipment,
