Re: Dirt Cheap Wardriving Rig

The version of wigle that will run on the vortex will no longer directly upload to the wigle database. However, you can still upload the files from a desktop or laptop. Try to upload the data as usual from wigle, and when it fails, hook your votex up to a PC and upload the generated csv file through...

Re: Optimal navigation system for total cover of an area

I don't know about the routing option, but I use the Sygic GPS navagation app on my Nexus 7 to navagate while wardriving. As an added bonus, you can run wigle on the nexus at the same time.

Re: Antenna Test: Alfa APA-M04

I would like to leave the antennas as exposed as possible. I'm already using two 12dbi antennas inside my car, "looking" through the side windows, yet the Mobile Mark 5dbi on the roof still seems more sensitive. A "whip" antenna would be ideal, but my understanding is that the whip has to be cut to ...

Re: Antenna Test: Alfa APA-M04

In my research, I ran across a web page where someone built their own wifi antenna. It consisted of many small segments linked together. The problem is that it is an indoor antenna. We already have excellent indoor wifi antennas available (I like these: http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet/-strse-53...

Re: Alfa AWUS051NH 5.8GHz Wardriving

I have disabled 2.4ghz channel hopping on the 51, since it is a poor performer in that band anyway, so it can concentrate on 5ghz. To do it, I had to create a channellist in kismet.conf consisting of those 5ghz channels that the 51 supports (it does not seem to support all IEEE80211a channels). I do...

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

Plus, I broke the little bastard unscrewing my card from it. Only solder joins the RP-SMA connector to the device. Very shoddy.

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

OK, I have some data.

Same course, same night, two runs with an Alfa AWUS036H.

With the amplifier: 1006 networks seen.

WITHOUT the amplifier: 1036 networks seen.

So, as far as wardriving is concerned, I'm going to have to rate this little doohickey as: Not Worth the Bother.

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

Upon further review, I have discovered that I did NOT burn out my wifi card, but rather that my new linux installation was not configured correctly. Naturally, I discovered this after I purchased a replacement. Someday I will learn to alter one variable at a time. So, further tests will be conducted...

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

Aaaaaaaand I just burnt out my card on my test course. An Alfa AWUS036H dies a noble death in the name of science. Listen to your ol' uncle bigs, kids, and _DEFINITELY_ don't try this one at home.

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

My problem with finding a car power adapter is finding one with the right size jack, the port on the booster is very small. Is there any kind of standardization to these things? Taking a quick look at my kismet logs, the packet counts seem to be off on the boosted card; some of the unboosted cards a...

Re: Equipment test: Alfa Signal Amplifier Booster

AC/DC Power adapter included: DC 6.0V x 500mA, AC 110 ~ 240V Power Adaptor Apparently customers were burning out their electronics: http://support.data-alliance.net/wifi-signal-booster/ I took it on a run tonight and things seem to be OK so far; unfortunately file parsing is stuck at the moment so i...

Re: Tell me about 5GHz

I dream of being rich and using 3 different antennas with pre-amps feeding splitters driving like 8 atheros ath9k cards in full 3stream mimo... : ) but for now I'm having success with some old miniPCI cards and homemade antennas.
Heh, you seem to be doing pretty well with what you have.
