How do I go about loading the Points in Jigle when I am offline? The maps appear to load, but I can't load any of the points that I have already downloaded from the site. Thanks If you just press cancel, when Jigle asks you to authenticate, it will use the cached data for the lat/lon boundingboxes ...

Re: How does the GPS thing work?

I recently went on a trip to San Francisco from Sacramento, CA. I ran NetStumbler on my laptop and by the time I got back home I had over 8000 wireless networks show up in that little program. It was a basic hp laptop with an internal card, no antenna... Anyway, how do you guys map the locations wi...

Re: as with many things

smaller = faster. newer = better. So you're saying that I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't ? Actually, I think I will try and see how much time it saves, if I strip out the track log data from the kismet gps file, so it only contains actual network location data, before uploading it....

Re: sigh

it already dosen't do anything except waste time. in general it seems to be folks who post aggregates of their drives instead of just their new data. so take an 11ty billion network file, go for a drive, see two nets, post all 11ty. the server already ignores everything except those two new ones, i...

Re: we are legion

we add all posted data to the system, but a series of identical posts are coalesced, and just eat time before they are discarded: posting the same file twice just wastes heat and time :-) You mean some people post the exact same file several times, thinking that it will skew the QOS indicator ? May...

I'm doing Adelaide. And I've actually done a fair chunk of what's already there, according to my number of new nets, and the "First discovered by me" checkbox There's not that many APs here unfortunately, it seems. :( You'll be amazed how much choice of equipment and software will matter,...

Re: Bump!

Time to bump this one to the top. Almost two years from the last post, and guess what, I'm in Perth right now, snarfing away with Kismet. Going to hit QLD, NSW, and VIC before I go back to the states too. ;) I think Wigle should have an edutaintment game made : "Where in the world is Carmen CC...

I think a few people from the Netstumbler group have been finding a fair few APs named "<hidden ssid>" - I was looking at one member's APs, and found a few. Pray tell, how would you go about looking at the AP's found by one member of a particular group ? Dutch Or was I? I don't know what ...

Bah! The N.S. has too many people already compared to the others. Besides I haven't ran Netstumbler in awhile and would feel odd gathering #'s for them with Kismet. I think a few people from the Netstumbler group have been finding a fair few APs named "<hidden ssid>" - I was looking at on...

I have seen Netstumbler see a network as "WPA". I think it gets the encryption scheme from the card driver (all it does is poll the driver) and some no-name-brand cards with drivers do actually send "WPA" back, as far as I know. KisMac in active mode can see that a network IS WP...

According to my friend, when he uses it, about half the time Netstumbler sees a WEP network, it thinks it is WPA. Tell your friend that he is full of BS. NetStumbler was programmed when WPA was just but a glimmer in the eyes of the members of the IEEE802.11 committee, and knows nothing about WPA. T...
