Re: How can we improve GPS performance?

Looking at the stats, I see that everyone else has (like me) many networks discovered that we didn't have GPS info for. I always thought the 'total networks' was a count of all the different networks the wardriver has logged, and one (major) reason of networks logged but not seen as new ones is tha...

Currently using a Earthmate LT20 usb gps - unhappy

I must say that I miss my old weatherproof Garmin GPS35 it wasnt WAAS but it was a mag mount with a 30 second persistance that help reduce the drops. This LT20 looses signal every time that my laptop changes power modes. even if I simply go from AC to battery. It claims that it supports WAAS but Ive...

Re: hrm.

we'll have a looksee. depending on what/when the update occurred, there can be issues sometimes. do you see the points in JiGLE/DiGLE? do they not show for you in all views, just specific ones? Hmm, I thought you had fixed it. the points started showing late Sunday -- about 3 days later than I was ...

Staples stores have public wifi

It isn't listed anywhere online, but all of the stores now have WiFi, not just the ones in Chicago. Staples hasn't figured out how to make a flat list. So finding stores is a matter of knowing there is a store in an area, or using a phoneook once you get there. The DB currently lists 265 locations t...

keep up the good work...

The web updates hamster needs a poke. Wigle transaction update 20070923-00097 contains 442 new points which were not plotted. There are other transactions not reporting, but I figure fixing one will probably fix them all. Nothing shows plotted on the web map for "only by me" search for tha...

Really want to get this lapper up and running...will concentrate on getting another USB to Serial converter. Well hurry up! You should be able to get up fairly high in the stats if you want to. I don't even live there and I've driven by 14% of the mapped AP's in Erie County and 17% of the ones in N...

yes you can

YoEleven: no, you cannot.
That isn't true, If you want, you can remove the cover on the wifi card and replace it with the cover from modem card. Might void the warranty, but who cares, its not like 14.4 modems are good for anything.

Looks like the world and Europe maps need to be re-genned as well, or maybe just their front page thumbs.

Of course, like anything so much to do and only so many hampsters. I would suggest rabbits but it is harder getting useful work out of those because all they do is re-produce.

Also, related to the article the county sheriff is quoted as saying "cantennas" (famous pringles antennas) are ilegal  Strictly speaking, if you built it yourself, yes it is, under FCC regulations. I do hope you meant that if you build it yourself and are not licensed, be it amateur...

Re: Have you made any progress? Wardriving accuracy, vectors

This is an old post and looks very interesting. How were you going to specify (keep track of)which antenna were pointing a certain direction? Could you have four drones with separate GPS's to help calibrate direction and vectors? (maybe some sort of self correction.) The thread seemed to end with t...

One other idea

Take the road less traveled, and drive it slower. I think the max speed for WD has to be about 45 for really good results. Follow the water, more rich people live along the water than not. When ghetto WD, dont look at people, just look at the road. plan that route ahead of time and think about doing...

Re: Cardinal Rules (FAQ) of wardriving

3. You need a card with an external antenna connector. I take a bit of an issue with this. It is RECOMMENDED , but it isn't NEEDED. So far I've WD 38K new AP's with an internal antenna on a high power card that is very sensitive(-95dB). I'm sure that there are more APs there but you can WD with alm...
