Re: What does this mean?
you should zoom out. Those red dots are each locations at which you've been and from which your phone observed the same Verizon LTE tower. They're all weak signals. If you walk around the block, or maybe a 5 block radius your phone will see more and hopefully a stronger signals at some point, althou...

Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
I think I get their position - for anything more sensitive than hobbyist network-finding, it would be very hard to rely on the security of those old phones (I wouldn't want to connect to my bank, or really anything that handled sensitive info over TLS1.0 today, and probably couldn't). Android is a d...
Re: Waiting for GPS sync
Can't replicate with my 7.x devices, but will continue to investigate. I've certainly seen GPS software get into a weird state - have you... tried turning it off then on again?
Re: Waiting for GPS sync
Please include the WiGLE app version and how you installed it... also, is this stock 7.1.1 or a 3rd party distribution?
Re: Using WIGLE data to geo-locate laptops with no GPS
I think quarterly or monthly would be extreme over-production - what we're trying to capture is the replacement / relocation rate of wireless equipment * the frequency with which our community of hobbyists check areas, so the changes on a monthly level wouldn't be huge. I'll also note that if you ha...
Re: Using WIGLE data to geo-locate laptops with no GPS
We created a whole project to do exactly that, without the giant storage overhead:

Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
That's half the problem - Google's not willing to distribute apps through the play store unless they target a new, moving requirement: that means Android 10 right now, Android 11 coming in the fall. ( https://developer.android.com/google/play/requirements/target-sdk ) Because of breaking SDK changes...
Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
The FOSS build situation for old phones looks like a pain - either the build will work as provided (with the ProviderInstall clauses removed) or someone would add and maintain conscrypt (someone would need to take on regular FOSS+oldroid builds) https://forum.f-droid.org/t/lack-of-tls-1-2-breaking-a...
Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
ok, this is ready for review; it's implemented for phones with access to Google Play Services in a branch here: https://github.com/rksh/wigle-wifi-wardriving/tree/oldroid If anyone can build and test with a proper phone, feedback would be appreciated. I only had one phone that could run this code, a...
Re: Wigle v2.71 - Statistics > Rankings goes from 100 to 301
As noted on the github issue, this should be fixed in 2.74
Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
Update here - we're continuing to work on this, but there's a lot going on. 1. Affected versions are (we believe) ONLY Jelly Bean (SDK 16) to KitKat (SDK 19) - everything later should be fine. (and everything earlier was almost certainly already not working). Phones running these OSes are all more t...
Re: Unable to secure connection with WiGLE
It might make more sense to publish it through the WiGLEnet account on github - but hopefully also reliable.
