"Triangulation"

Yes, it is true that things can get skewed, but in practice it seems to be working rather well. I'm sure we could come up with something a bit more accurate, but if all you have is a line of data you can't be sure which side of the line the data is on, so it'll never be totally accurate unless you g...

JiGLE local caching

The JiGLE client can save the points that it downloads from WiGLE.net to a file for later use with the '-cache <cachefile>' option. Then to load the cache pass the shortname of the mappack you want in with -mappack <mappack>, and pass the cache (or wi-scan file) in with -getcache <cachefile> (or -ge...

Data removed

Hey there, I just removed the entries for you. We do have the wigle-admin@wigle.net email address, but posting things on here is fine. I should make a 'general stuff' list i suppose, but we're so low traffic here I haven't needed to split things up.

Thanks for the data!

Support for Kismet's XML file format

I've got WiGLE parsing the .xml files generated from Kismet (not the .gps). So go ahead and post those if you like. Note that the triangulation might not be as accurate with these files since they don't have all of the location information in them.

'Simple Output'

The query page has an option for 'Simple Output' which is tilde delimited, newline seperated records. This should be a pretty easily managed format for playing with the data. Nothing with XML is planned unless there becomes a compelling reason for it.

Thanks for trying out our stuff!

More downtime. Boo on consumer electronics.

I recently purchased an SMC wireless cable modem/dsl router box, and it worked great for about a week. Today it decided to stop getting dhcp ip's off of the cable modem. After trying many things, it has been determined that it will go back to microcenter, and the linux box that was doing the firewal...

Java 1.3.0 and higher should work

Myself and others have used Java 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 and haven't had problems with JiGLE. Anything older than that has problems due to the 2D API that we use which was added around 1.3.0.

Should be fixed

The file name coming in from apache had the full windows path, and i think the backslashes was making gunzip unhappy. It should work now for those files.

You can now post files gzip'd (.gz)

You can now post files that are gzip'd and they will be gunzip'd before being read. Cygwin has a nice GNU gzip for windows, most unix variants will have one already. pkzip and winzip are *not* supported, and probably won't be unless people really want it.

Kismet support is now done

The parser now understands Kismet's CWGD format. Give it a try, let me know if I messed something up. :)

Email a copy?

Could you send a copy as an attachment to wigle-admin@wigle.net ? (If you tried before and it was down, it's up again. New version of sendmail required figuring out new configs :(

Australian mappacks

In order to generate the mappacks I would need to have some kind of geographic data for the area. We've found some semi-decent data for europe that is free, but nothing approaching the detail we get from the U.S. Census Bureau. If anyone finds a source of nice, free, GPS-based geographic data (roads...

Difference

Yeah, that would be true if you have a non-linear driving path, when going around the block or something. I'll put the antenna strength on the todo list.

Recent Downtime

I apologize for the recent downtime. Of course when I go out of town that's when I have connectivity problems. Things should be up and stable now.
