hi.. im currently a newbie in this area.. how can i detect a wireless access point in our community??? is there any device that i should use in order to detect this access points?? thanks a lot... :)

To start, you need software such as NetStumbler or Kismet, as well as (preferably) a pcmcia card (or internal card) that is supported by those software packages.

Google is your friend.

What does it mean when using my NOkia Communicator and I detect Wireless LAN's and the description is "Open Network"?

You can use a PSP.. Just go to the Network Settings and Scan for any wi-fi access points.. And for the sake of this site, write down the info and location and log it in :) :D
